2017 was a banner year for airline profits, with United States airlines and foreign carriers flying a record 965 million passengers on flights serving the U.S. But this year, rising fuel prices and other financial pressures could affect airlines’ bottom lines and how passengers travel.

On Thursday, September 27, The Washington Post will gather leaders in government and aviation to discuss the rising cost of jet fuel, energy policy, what’s next for aircraft and airports and other factors impacting the economics of the aviation industry.

This is the second of three Washington Post Live “Taking Flight” programs presented by Delta Air Lines. The first event, held on June 7, 2018, focused on the aviation regulatory landscape. The third event, to be held on November 15, will explore issues of safety and security.
